Choosing a newborn photographer is about more than just liking their photos. You’re trusting someone to handle your baby safely, work in your home or studio, and capture once-in-a-lifetime moments in the very early days. Here are some questions you may want to research from your studio newborn photographer in Wimbledon
Asking the right questions upfront helps you avoid surprises and ensures you choose someone who matches your expectations in style, safety, and professionalism.
Here are 8 essential questions to ask before booking your Wimbledon newborn photographer.

How much experience do you have as a newborn Photographer?
So this is an interesting question, and not all Newborn photographers have had the training in Newborn Photography posing, especially the safety side of things. You must ask this question, as this is the most important thing that your Photographer should know when handling your baby’s things, like what positions are safe for the baby to be in. If your Photographer hasn’t had the correct training, this can turn out to be quite a dangerous situation.
Question two: What safety practices do you follow?
So this leads on from the first question? Things like, do they know how to support the head? What hygiene practices do they use to keep the baby safe from all the nasty germs that are produced in the world? Whether they use props and how much experience they’ve had in using them. What do they do to keep your baby safe when a baby is in a bucket, bowl or other prop? If they cannot answer these questions, then it is definitely a red flag.

When is the best time to book your baby session?
This might seem like an obvious question, but some photographers will only take photo shoots when babies are a few days old, whereas others? (like myself) carry out newborn Photography sessions up to a month old. So thinking about what you want as a parent, from your shoot, makes a difference when choosing your newborn Photographer.
Do they have a studio or do they work from their home/in your home?
This might not matter to you, but some photographers don’t have a studio. They might use a room in their house or come to your home to do the Photography. If this is the case, then you might want to find out a little bit more about where they do their photo sessions. Usually, if a baby photographer costs a little bit more, it might be that they have a professional space where they can pose your family and your newborn in a wonderfully comfortable environment, creating a more professional and studio look to their sessions.

How long does a session last?
That’s a great question, as it might seem obvious that it takes a few hours to do a photo shoot with a newborn baby. However, there are different factors that may affect how long a photo session takes, and these can include whether your photographer produces very posed images or more natural images. Does your photographer send out a prep guide to their clients to support them in getting their baby ready your baby ready for a photo session, so that they can start the newborn photo session without a lot of fuss at the beginning? Depending on what you’re looking for in your session and whether you want to stay at the studio for 3 to 4 hours or 1 to 2 hours may make make a difference in your decision-making
How soon will I be able to see my images?
That’s a great question. Each Photographer is different; some may deliver the gallery within a few days. Some may take a few weeks. I myself, as a newborn photographer with Wimbledon, London, ask clients to book a viewing appointment one week to 2 weeks after their photo session. This is where I show my families their beautiful images, and they will select their final package, order any products and take home their final selection.
What is your photography style and which one should I go for?
Photography styles differ with every type of photographer there is, including Newborn photography. Some studio newborn photography photographers will use lots of colours and props, buckets, bowls, et cetera I, myself, as a studio newborn photographer near Wimbledon, choose to go with more natural tones, natural poses and lots of detailed shots in each gallery. You receive between 50and 70 images to choose from.
What happens if my baby is not settled at the studio newborn photography in Wimbledon?
This question gets asked a lot and is something that parents might think about before booking their Newborn session. As a newborn Photographer with over seven years of experience working with newborns. I can say I have never had to turn a family away at their photo session because of a crying baby. My skills and experience has allowed me to understand the needs of a baby at the photo session itself. If a baby needs feeding, we feed the baby; if a baby needs changing, we change the baby. If the baby is cold or warm, we’re just adjusting the temperature and making that baby feel safe, secure and warm. I also make sure that parents are fully prepped before the session, sending out guides about the day and what to wear. This allows parents to feel relaxed when they arrive at their photo session and, therefore, allows the baby to be relaxed also
A Newborn photo session is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and your photographer should make you feel confident and safe to book had a wonderful, enjoyable experience.
